Welcome to Jury Duty

We have put together this information for our prospective jurors. We hope this will answer any questions you may have concerning your jury service. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact Rhonda Hepner, the court bailiff. She will be glad to talk to you.

There are 182,470 Medina County residents. Of this number approximately 145,000 are jury eligible. These 145,000 prospective jurors are randomly selected from the database of registered voters. Each year, approximately 10,000 of the eligible people are selected to serve as jurors in Medina County. This means each year you have a one in ten chance to be selected as a juror. These 10,000 prospective jurors are divided among four Courts: Medina County Common Pleas Court – Courtroom #3A with Judge Hutson, Medina County Common Pleas Court – Courtroom #3B with Judge Kimbler, Medina Municipal Court with Judge Werner, and Wadsworth Municipal Court with Judge McIlvaine.

Parking

Parking is available behind the courthouse. Surface parking and a parking deck are both available. There is no charge for parking.

After you park, enter the Courthouse through the rear entrance and go to the second floor to Courtroom #1. You will be checked-in in the courtroom by the bailiff.

Jury Service

A new jury is selected for each week of the month. Some trials can be completed in a single day, while other trials last longer. Generally, you will not be required to serve beyond the week that you are scheduled. However, on rare occasions, a trial may last longer than one week. If this is the case, the court will advise you on your first day of jury service so that you may make arrangements at home or at work.

You are instructed to call 1-833-710-1165 before your service is to begin to see if you are needed to report. You can call this number at any time to inquire as to the status of your jury service.

Hours

The Court is generally in session from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a lunch break around noon. Once the jury begins to deliberate you could be here late that night depending on the status of your deliberations.

Proof of Jury Service

If you are required to report for jury duty, you can obtain proof of jury service for your employer through the eResponse website as indicated on your summons. You will receive $20.00 per day for each day you serve as a juror. You will receive a check by mail approximately one month after the completion of your service.
