Water Reclamation Facility Shift Supervisor (Full-Time)
The Medina County Sanitary Engineer is searching for two shift supervisors for its facility in Valley City, Ohio. Located in northern Medina County, Valley City is 40 minutes from Cleveland and 45 minutes from Akron. The Water Reclamation Facility has 40,000 customers and serves the communities of Brunswick and Medina, as well as some unincorporated portions of the county.
The Water Reclamation Facility completed a $35M biosolids upgrade in 2019 with many state of the art processes being incorporated. The design flow of the plant is 15MGD, with updated bar screens, grit removal, primary settling, activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, secondary clarifiers and sand filters. The biosolid process includes thermal hydrolysis(Cambi) followed by anaerobic digestion with phosphorus and ammonia removal(MagPrex) before final dewatering. The biogas is cleaned and utilized to generate approximately 75% of the electricity required to power the plant with the waste heat from the generator being used to create the steam for the thermal hydrolysis process. The resulting class A biosolid product is beneficially land applied.
Position Description:
This position offers the opportunity to learn all aspects of the Water Reclamation Facility for someone looking to enhance their leadership and supervisory skills in a state of the art facility. This is a Class IV facility and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to pursue their Class IV license with the Ohio EPA.
The shift supervisor is responsible for the efficient operation of the wastewater treatment facility and all components of the wastewater treatment process while providing staff leadership to ensure regulatory compliance. Direct day-to-day activities under general directions, supervise the shift operations of the wastewater treatment plant by planning work, directing personnel, and assigning work to be performed; assisting the Plant Superintendent and Assistant Plant Superintendent in coordinating and preparing operation and maintenance reports as needed. Supervise and perform related preventive and maintenance repairs. Supervise required process control laboratory testing; perform related work as required.
Qualifications:
At a minimum, applicants must possess a valid Ohio EPA Wastewater Works Operator Class II license and MUST obtain an Ohio EPA Wastewater Works Operator III within 2 years of appointment. Advanced knowledge of wastewater operations and laboratory analysis is required. Applicants must have aptitude in locating the cause of mechanical system and equipment defects and basic electrical knowledge. Strong maintenance and troubleshooting skills are a plus. Applicants must have the ability to carry out oral and written instructions and be able to maintain effective working relationships.
Starting Rate:
$33.00/hour; plus supplemental pay
Supplemental Pay:

Hours:
The work week consists of four 10 hour days, either Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday with occasional opportunities for overtime. The hours are:
2nd shift 2:00 pm–12:00 am
3rd shift 11:00 pm–9:00 am
