Civil Engineer II (Full-Time)
The Medina County Engineers has a position available for a Civil Engineer. Employee will have a 120-day probationary period.

Under general direction, is responsible for performing a variety of professional engineering work in the office and field; performs other related duties as required.
The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions performed by this classification:
Reviews and coordinates review of proposed land subdivision plans , stormwater calculations, and sediment control as they relate to County Subdivision Regulations and Stormwater Management and Sediment Control Rules and Regulations; makes engineering evaluations as to conformance;
Reviews conceptual and preliminary subdivision plans, provides comments, and attends County Department of Planning Services and Planning Commission meetings as needed; works as liaison with County Department of Planning Services and other County departments;
Reviews and coordinates review of proposed site development plans, stormwater calculations, and sediment control as they relate to County Stormwater Management and Sediment Control Regulations; makes engineering evaluations as to conformance;
Designs new culverts; prepares or supervises preparation of construction plans for culverts;
Prepares and reviews hydrologic and hydraulic calculations for design of culverts, storm sewers, and stormwater management facilities;
Inspects or supervises inspection of all types of land development construction projects performed by contractors; makes detailed hydrologic and hydraulic studies and calculations, as required; performs various surveying work, as required; operates transit; checks grades and levels;
Calculates drainage assessments and manages, coordinates, and maintains records of drainage assessment funds established for subdivisions and prepares necessary related documents; coordinates with County Auditor’s office regarding funds and assessments;
Estimates quantities and costs of materials needed in construction; assists in coordinating maintenance, repair, or replacement of culverts and stormwater facilities; prepares contract documents, advertisements, plans and specifications for bidding; performs all other related duties as required.
Provides information to surveyors, engineers, township trustees, and general public in regard to problems with drainage, subdivision, plat reviews; estimates quantities and costs of materials needed in construction; inspects or supervises inspection of approved subdivision and site development projects performed by contractors; reviews and oversees work by Civil Engineer I, as required to perform professional engineering work; performs implementation of departmental policies and procedures; assists in development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures dealing with stormwater management rules and regulations; performs all other related duties.
Communicates by telephone, email, in writing, and/or in person with design engineers, developers, contractors, utilities, County and Township officials, other state or city agencies and the general public to respond to inquiries and insure compliance with county procedures and specifications;
NECESSARY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES (At time of filing application)
Knowledge of principles and theories of civil engineering; knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in public works construction; knowledge of surveying as related to development of preliminary plans for construction work; knowledge of highway design, hydrology, and hydraulic design; knowledge of public relations; ability to prepare specifications and technical reports; ability to interpret field data; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to use and manage spreadsheets; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, public officials, supervisors and the general public; ability to supervise others.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Walking, climbing, working outdoors in inclement weather, may be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, noise, water, inclement weather and/or moving traffic. Sitting at desk for long periods of time; exposure to construction sites, variable terrain, variable temperatures. May be required to work weekends or holidays and variable hours during heavy construction periods. May be required to attend training.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed above. E.I. required, P.E. preferred. An example of minimum acceptable qualifications for this position is:
Possession of a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field; five years of civil engineering experience, including experience in county or city highway engineering including public works design, construction, and plan review. Possession of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and verification of vehicular insurability under the Medina County Commissioner’s requirements.
$25.55–$36.00 per hour
