EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR VETERANS
MEDINA COUNTY BENEFITS
Financial Assistance Program:
The Medina County Veterans Service Office provides almost immediate financial assistance to resident Medina County veterans and their families who qualify. That relief provides the basic’s essentials to get them back on their feet in time of need. It is not intended to be a supplemental income nor a permanent subsidy.
Our program is based on the needs of each and every individual, it is also based on the entire family income and is subject to change at anytime based on economic factors that are out of our control.
Our assistance includes but is not limited to:
·Rent and mortgage payments
·Utilities: Gas, Electric and Water
·Food and personal hygiene items
·Medical
If denied financial assistance you have the right to appeal it to the Commissioners of the Medina County Veterans Service Office. Please feel free to ask one of our associates how to file an appeal.
Items you will need to file for assistance:
·Drivers license
·Proof of residency
·DD 214 (cannot be dishonorable)
·Marriage and Divorce papers
·Birth certificate and custody papers
·Signed lease agreement
·Income statements (incl. spouse)
·Social Security payment
·Pensions payments
·W2 from previous year
·All financial statements (i.e. bank)
·Medical bills
·Utility bills
·Mortgage
In most cases in order to receive assistance, we will require you to register with Job and Family Services (JFS) for food stamps. You may also be required to register with unemployment or attend financial counseling classes.
We are able to offer this assistance because the State of Ohio has a section in its law that allows each county to spend a prescribed amount of county tax monies on needy veterans and their families. This law dates back to the post civil war period (1886)
