Anti-drug levy dollars fund the following: EDUCATION $29,500 Black River Local Schools - MCDAC funds help to provide a Student Assistance Coordinator who organizes and monitors the Drug Awareness Programs, curriculum development, and is the advisor for the SADD, Peer Mediation, HUDDLE and Mentoring school programs. The Medina County Sheriff's Department aids the school with a resource officer who provides additional drug & alcohol education, prevention and intervention services. $71,488 Brunswick City Schools - MCDAC funds go toward Student Assistance Staff, who provide prevention, counseling, intervention, referral and follow-up services to the students in the eleven buildings in the school district. They also provide education, consultation and referral services for staff and parents in the District. $41,010 Buckeye Local Schools - MCDAC funds go solely toward a District Prevention Coordinator, whose goal is to enhance the education of students by reducing the incidence of chemical abuse, violence and crime, thus creating a substantially improved learning environment for both students and staff, therefore improving the standard of living for the entire community. $68,362 Cloverleaf Local Schools - MCDAC funds help to provide a District Prevention Director and a Student Assistance Counselor. The Director provides direct service to students in the form of support and leadership programming and staff training and education throughout the district. The Counselor provides direct service to the middle and high school students, support for parents, and participates in county prevention collaboration. $59,337 Highland Local Schools - MCDAC funds go toward a Chemical Dependency Coordinator who oversees and administers K-12 drug prevention programs throughout the district along with training for staff and community education. Student assistance programs include individual and group seminars geared toward elementary, middle, and high school students and include the annual BIONIC night program, Peer Leader programming, and After-Prom. $79,005 Medina City Schools - MCDAC funds help to support the Elementary and Middle School Prevention Programs for grades K-12. All K-8 students receive developmentally appropriate classroom prevention lessons (Pathways to Success-renown as a Best Practice Strategy). The Prevention Specialists assist in program-wide prevention activities such as leadership programs and awareness campaigns (PANDA, Peer Mediation, Tobacco Awareness, & Red Ribbon). $37,000 Medina County Career Center - MCDAC funds provide prevention and intervention programs for alcohol and drug abuse. These programs focus on the four variables that have shown to impact adolescents and at-risk behaviors by proactively involving school, community and family resources in both prevention and recovery efforts. $77,210 Wadsworth City Schools - MCDAC funds go toward Life Skills programming, which is a research based interactive program designed to prevent the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal substances in the student population, through the development of health knowledge and responsible self-management skills. Licensed, intervention specialists implement this program and continue to provide crucial intervention services to the district. $142,500 Medina County Sheriff's Office/D.A.R.E./School Resource Officers- MCDAC funds help to provide, Buckeye, Cloverleaf, and Highland School Districts with blended D.A.R.E. and School Resource Officers that assist the respective districts in their efforts to maintain a safe and secure school environment that is drug and alcohol free for students, staff, parents and visitors. LAW ENFORCEMENT $461,500 Medina County Drug Task Force- MCDAC funds go toward the vast majority of this entire operation to intervene on the supply side of illicit drugs. The Task Force serves to identify, arrest and prosecute drug traffickers, seize and forfeit criminal assets, provide training to law enforcement, public safety/governmental agencies and community groups. Strong cooperation, coordination, and communication with local law enforcement agencies have been ongoing since 1990. $50,485 City of Wadsworth/MedWay - The Wadsworth Police Department and MedWay Drug Unit in the late 1990's cooperated in the investigation of numerous drug cases in Wadsworth and Wayne Counties. Although not a member of MedWay Drug Unit, the City of Wadsworth reaped the benefits MedWay had to offer. In 1999 the City of Wadsworth joined the MedWay Task Force. Since then, the City has enjoyed the benefits of this joint venture. $94,821 City of Brunswick - The City of Brunswick utilizes MCDAC funding for the purpose of securing the services of The MedWay Drug Enforcement Agency dating back to 1987. $25,000 Medina City Police - MCDAC is funding a new initiative which helps Medina City Police Department to continue and enhance operations of the Medina City Police Department Officer/Investigator. The Narcotics Officer is responsible for the investigation of all narcotics-related offenses occurring within the City of Medina. PROGRAMS $20,600 Brunswick Division of Police/The Family Assistance Coalition Team; FACT - MCDAC partially funds the FACT Program, which is designed to prevent and/or intervene in substance abuse and related personal and family issues by utilizing law enforcement, education, mental health and social service professionals. The Brunswick Division of Police contracts with four different community agencies to administer and provide these vital services. Free drug & alcohol assessments for juveniles are also offered. $15,860 Medina County Share Cluster Trainings - School Substance Abuse Prevention Professionals throughout Medina County join in a collaborative effort with law enforcement agencies, substance abuse, and mental health care providers to share prevention initiatives and programs. The Share Cluster also conducts various prevention focused training programs throughout the year targeting Medina County youth, parents, and professionals. $23,000 Wadsworth Center for Older Adults/HANDS/Making Prevention Work - MCDAC funds help this initiative deliver prevention and education services to seniors and their families relating to the potential risk factors associated with the complexities of substance use and abuse and the interactions effects of prescription medications. The program promotes community awareness of these issues and also educates caregivers and health care professionals, as well as provides referrals to agencies as needed. $50,000 Medina County Juvenile Court/Juvenile Drug Court - Transforms the roles of both criminal justice and substance abuse practitioners as a unified approach to address youth whose involvement with drugs and alcohol has led to criminal activities. The Drug Court incorporates a multi-phased supervision and treatment model that reduces recidivism and enhances the quality of life for the entire family. $10,000 Spencer Police/Oaks Family Care Center/Family Alternatives Program - MCDAC funds assist this newly created collaboration among Oaks, Spencer Police and Black River Schools in an attempt to assist families in the Lodi & Spencer areas. $40,000 Solutions Behavioral Healthcare - The Recidivism/Prevention Counselor will provide services to the citizens of Medina County, who need detoxification services. The Recidivism/Prevention Counselor will help customers circumvent common barriers that prevent residents from accessing needed services. Additionally the Recidivism/Prevention Counselor will engage the client during detoxification services thereby making treatment recommendations and assisting county residents to follow through with the recommended treatment plan.
