Mission Statement

The Medina County Child Support Enforcement Agency is dedicated to be responsive to our clientele in a professional manner by providing quality service through location of non-custodial parents, and establishment and enforcement of support obligations in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Under welfare reform, Ohio Works First (OWF) participants who refuse to cooperate with the child support enforcement process can rapidly lose all OWF and food stamp benefits.
The Medina County Child Support Enforcement Agency has no legal authority to address the following issues:
  • Collection on medical bills
  • Visitation
  • Custody determination
  • Collection on property settlements

Child support enforcement cases are unique and enforcement activities vary in accordance with the circumstances of the individual case.

Change in Non-Residential or Residential Parent Information

The law requires both the obligor and the obligee to notify the agency, in writing, of the following changes immediately after the change occurs:

  • Name - Provide proof of name change, i.e., marriage license, adoption order, or divorce order, specifying name change.

  • Address - If you have moved or plan to move, notify the agency in writing of the change.  Include your case number and the effective date of the move.  Notifying the post office alone does not fulfill your legal responsibility to keep the CSEA informed of your current address.  A post office box does not qualify as a residential address.

  • Employment - Current name, address, and telephone number of your employer.

  • Health Insurance Coverage - Provide written proof of any health insurance coverage available.

  • Adjustment Review - Each party to the support order has a right to request a review of the order thirty-six (36) months from the establishment of the order or from the date of the most recent review, or sooner, if certain circumstances are present.  Contact the CSEA for further details.

  • Termination of Child Support Obligation - The parent who is the residential parent and legal custodian of a child for whom a support order is issued shall immediately notify, and the obligor may notify, the CSEA of any reason for which the support order should terminate, including, but not limited to the following:

    • Death
    • Marriage
    • Emancipation
    • Enlistment in the armed services
    • Deportation
    • Change of legal or physical custody of the child

Collection of Child Support

Due to federal legislation, effective September 30, 2000, the State of Ohio is required to have centralized collection and disbursement of child support payments.  Because of this requirement in the year 2000, payment processing will move from the Medina County CSEA to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Office of Child Support.  For additional information, the State of Ohio provides a web site for the State Office of Child Support.
